Sox Continue Home Win Streak

July 29, 2008 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Reno Silver Sox News Release

The Reno Silver Sox (4-6) fended off the Chico Outlaws (4-8) to increase their home winning streak to four in a 7-6 victory at Peccole Park in Reno last night.

Jesse Hall started the game for the Silver Sox and threw seven strong innings. Hall allowed only two runs off four hits, walking one, and striking out two. Though he didn?t earn the win, Hall did his job of keeping the Outlaws off base. Andrew Alvarado came in for relief in the eighth and struck out two of the three batters he faced.

Finishing out the game was Mitch Arnold (1-0) who escaped a near loss, and instead picked up the win for the Silver Sox. Arnold struggled in the ninth allowing the Outlaws to score the tying run, but redeemed himself in the tenth by getting three quick outs to keep the game tied. Arnold allowed four runs off three hits, walking one, and striking out two.

The Silver Sox offense started early tonight as they quickly took a 4-0 lead after the first inning. 3B John Hattig started things off for the Silver Sox. After the starting pitcher for the Outlaws, Jason Roach, walked 2B Carlos Madrid and RF Juan Senreiso, Hattig nailed an RBI single to bring in Madrid and move Senreiso to third. LF Ross McCoy then hit an RBI double to bring in Senreiso. Hattig would then go on to score on a wild pitch and a sacrifice hit for DH D.J Dixon would bring the score to four. Hattig was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run, and was intentionally walked twice. McCoy was 3-for-5 with one RBI and a run, and Dixon was 1-for-5 with an RBI.

C Adam Geery added one to the board with an RBI single that brought in McCoy in the third. Geery was 1-for-5 with an RBI. In a 5-2 game after the seventh, the Silver Sox added one more insurance run in the eighth on a Madrid RBI double to bring the score to 6-2. The Outlaws rallied in the ninth to tie the game and bring it into extra innings. Arnold held the Outlaws with a 1-2-3 inning and Harris hit a double to lead of the tenth. Madrid moved him with a sacrifice hit, and then the Outlaws intentionally walked both Senreiso and Hattig to load the bases. The pressure was on McCoy who didn?t have to do much when Harris quickly scored on a passed ball to win the game 7-6.

The Silver Sox faceoff with the Outlaws again tomorrow in a double header where the Sox look to continue their home winning streak, and give the Outlaws some payback for the weekend sweep. The first game starts at 5 P.M. with the Peccole gates opening at 4 P.M.
