Sox Come Through in the Clutch

July 3, 2008 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Reno Silver Sox News Release

When you're trailing late in games, clutch hits are of the utmost importance. And the Reno Silver Sox came up with two on Wednesday on their way to a 10-9 comeback victory.

Reno led the Chico Outlaws 7-6 going into the seventh inning, when CF Steve Boggs singled to center. Two runs would score on the play, with Boggs scoring slightly after giving Chico a two run lead.

The following inning, the Sox would get maybe their biggest hit of the year. Following a Juan Senreiso single, C DJ Dixon hit an opposite field two-run home run which tied the game at 9. Then in the ninth inning, CF Gary Harris singled and stole his fourth base of the game setting up RF Ross McCoy.

McCoy had already shown off his Herculean arm strength in the outfield earlier in the game when he picked up an outfield assist, but this time he was needed at the plate, and came up huge. McCoy doubled in Harris to give Reno a 10-9 lead that they would not relinquish.

Pitching on short rest, Reggie Leslie took the ball to start the game and pitched three innings for the Silver Sox. Scott Schneider also pitched a pair. To the surprise of some, Doug Sanders came in and also threw two innings ? and Sanders, who is a second baseman, got out of two situations with multiple runners on base without allowing a run! Derrick Landavazo, a new edition to the Sox, picked up the save.

The Silver Sox will be in action again Thursday night for the finale of the four game series against Chico with the fireworks extravaganza afterwards. Gates open at 6 PM and you can purchase tickets at silversoxbaseball.com.
