Calgary Captain Duncan Returns Tonight

July 3, 2008 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Calgary Vipers News Release

Tonight when the Calgary Vipers take on the Edmonton Cracker-Cats at 7:05 PM (MDT) at Foothills Stadium they will get a big boost to their lineup with the return of Carlos Duncan. The native of the Dominican Republic has not yet played a game this season due to a knee injury but is coming off a fabulous 2007 season.

Duncan a season ago put up numbers that would have placed him in line for league MVP honours were it not for teammate Darryl Brinkley. Instead Carlos had to settle for being named Baseball America's All-Independent Leagues First Team All-Star Third Baseman along with Northern League First-Team All-Star Third Baseman. The fourth year Viper finished the season third in the Northern League batting race. While hitting a gaudy .350 Duncan also tied with Brinkley for third in the RBI race with 82 knocked in. He was second in the league with 139 hits and fourth in runs scored with 77. He also smashed 13 home runs and stole 20 bases.

In his three seasons with the Snakes he was named MVP in 2005, Most Outstanding Hitter in 2006, and Co-MVP last year. Duncan has played 265 career games as a Viper, hit .317, scored 217 runs, smashed 45 homeruns, knocked in 159 runs, and stole 112 bases. The speedster stills holds the all-time Northern League record for steals in a season with 59 back in 2005.
