Reno Silver Sox News Release
Reno, NV- The Reno Silver Sox announced today that they have signed three players to Golden League contracts, released one, and had one retire over the last week.
Nat Harris, 22, a right-handed pitcher from the University of Texas at Tyler, was signed to help shore up the bullpen due to the recent retirement of RHP Josh Shackelford. Harris was 7-1 last season for the Patriots with a 4.04 ERA and four complete games.
OF/DH Nate Fisk, 23, has a long lineage of baseball players in his family. His father, Don Fisk, played for the New York Yankees and he grandfather played for the Boston Braves. The 6'3, 220-pound Fisk was the designated hitter for the Eagles of Concordia University in California last season. Fisk batted .287, with six home runs and twenty-six RBI.
INF C.J. Lang, a former Reed High School standout, also signed with the Silver Sox today. Lang, spent last season with UNLV Rebels. Lang batted .362, knocking in 42 RBIs, and started 55 out of 59 games. Playing for the Reed Raiders from 1998 to 2002, Lang broke the Reed record for doubles in a season in 2001 while helping the Raiders to the league title that year. He followed that up by breaking the school record for home runs his senior year.
To make room on the roster for the new additions, the Sox released SS Alberto Carmenates. Carmenates couldn't find his swing during his brief stay, going hitless in ten at bats and committing a pair of errors. The Sox also announced the retirement of pitcher Josh Shackelford. Shackelford played in four games for the Silver Sox, ending up with an 8.31 ERA. In their final roster move, Reno placed OF Hector Zamora on the disabled list with a leg injury.
The Reno Silver Sox are back at Peccole Park on Friday, June 30 at 6:35 to begin a seven game home stand, where they will host the Fullerton Flyers and the San Diego Surf Dawgs. The game on the 30th will be the second of three Winner's Corner Ball Nights, where the first 1,500 fans through the gate will receive a free baseball featuring the heroes of the San Francisco Giants. The home stand will also be highlighted by fireworks on July 3, sponsored by Pacific West Builders, in celebration of America's Birthday.
