San Diego Surf Dawgs News Release

SAN DIEGO - The Surf Dawgs (8-11) rebounded from last night's difficult loss with a victory over the Chico Outlaws behind a strong pitching performance from Justin Ottman (2-1). Ottman allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with four strikeouts.

The Surf Dawgs once again got on the board first, this time in the bottom of the second inning. After Tony Garcia and Matthew Connolly singled back-to-back, new catcher Kevin Ciarrachi grounded into the 6-4-3 double play but Garcia scored to make it 1-0 San Diego.

In the fourth, the Dawgs would add on two more. Scott Goodman led off the inning with a single and Guerra, who went 2-for-4, hit a flare to put runners on the corners with no outs. Goodman would score on a wild pitch from Robert Anaya (0-2) to make it 2-0. On a Connolly groundball, Guerra hustled to beat a close throw at home and San Diego was in the driver's seat, leading 3-0.

Three runs would be more than enough for San Diego starting pitcher Justin Ottman, who once again was brilliant, lowering his ERA to 2.66. E.J. Shanks would bridge the gap between Ottman and the closer Josh Rummonds, who has been perfect in four save opportunities of the year. The bullpen didn't allow a single hit to complete the four-hitter.

The Surf Dawgs are starting to play a little better, having won four of their last six games. They look to continue to play sound baseball tomorrow night against these same Chico Outlaws (9-11) at 7:05 PT. This will be the rubber match of the three game set and would pull the Dawgs out of the cellar.
