Reno Silver Sox News Release

The Reno Silver Sox, a proud member of the Golden League, signed catcher Masashi Chikazawa to a contract over the weekend. Chikazawa, a native of Kyoto, Japan, was originally drafted in 2001 with the number three pick by the Osaka Kintetsu Buffaloes.

Chikazawa played in four games in the Japanese Major Leagues with the Buffaloes going 1-2 with a two-run double.

In 2002, Chikazawa was one of four Buffaloes invited to the Los Angeles Dodgers big league camp. However, after two months he did not make the club.

Chikazawa has played in four games for the Sox, going 5-15 with a double and two homeruns, one of which was a grand slam against the San Diego Surf Dawgs.

The Sox are back in town on Tuesday to begin a six game home stand. On Thursday, the American Heart Association will be holding a very special silent auction. Every Silver Sox player will be a wearing a red hat in support of the event. Those red hats will then be autographed and auctioned off to help raise money for the association. All games for this home stand begin at 6:35 (gates open at 5:30), except on Sunday when first pitch is at 5:05 (gates open at 4 PM). Tickets to all games are available by calling the Silver Sox box office at (775) 348-7769 or by going to www.silversoxbaseball.com.
