San Diego Surf Dawgs News Release
SAN DIEGO - Two-time GBL All-Star Seth Pietsch has been traded to the Joliet Jackhammers of the Northern League for a player to be named later and cash considerations. The league leader with a .353 batting average, Pietsch has been with the Surf Dawgs since their inception last season.
Last season, Pietsch finished the season ninth in the GBL with a .323 batting average and was tied for the team lead in home runs with 12. This season, Pietsch has had a couple of notable streaks including a 15-game hitting streak and a streak in which he reached base safely in 36 consecutive games, two short of the GBL record.
These streaks did not, however, propel Pietsch back into affiliated baseball. The former sixth-round pick "has done all he can for this team and for himself with the Surf Dawgs. This move will put him in the eyes of a whole new group of scouts and open a new avenue of exposure. Seth's leadership will be sorely missed, but he deserves the chance to be seen by every last person who can give him an opportunity. The Golden Baseball League has been very open in giving their players what they want," said Manager Terry Kennedy.
Hal Lanier, who also was Surf Dawgs Manager Terry Kennedy's manager when he was in Triple-A, is also the manager of the Joliet Jackhammers. Lanier was manager of the Springfield Redbirds when Kennedy was there in the late 70's.
San Diego will finish up their series with the Reno Silver Sox today at 1:05 p.m. PT before hitting the road for a six-game, eight-day road trip with the first three games coming in Chico on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The three games with the first-place Outlaws could go a long way in helping the Surf Dawgs get back to the top of the GBL standings.
