Orange County Flyers News Release
Yuma's bullpen quelled the Flyers comeback attempt and halted their winning streak at five games. The Scorpions scored early and held on to win 6-3 at Desert Sun Stadium.
The Yuma Scorpions got offense from some unlikely places and used it to defeat the Flyers 6-3 to take game one of a three-game series. Andy Wilson hit his first homerun of the season for Yuma and scored twice to pace their attack.
Ryan Amason threw a strong 5.1 innings to get his third win.
The Flyers took a 1-0 lead in the 4th inning when Rich Pohle's single drove in Jesse Schmidt.
Yuma took the lead for good in their half of the 4th inning after Jacob Guzman's RBI double tied the game. Hector Tena drove in Wilson to break the tie.
Steve Smith started Yuma's three-run rally in the 5th inning. The inning was capped by Wilson's homerun.
Down 5-1, the Flyers rallied for two runs in the 6th inning when they chased Amason. Ric Sander came into the game and walked Hector Zamora to load the bases. Adam Shorsher got a clutch two-out two-RBI single to halve the lead.
Walt Nolen threw an easy 9th inning to earn his fourth save.
Reed Dickert threw 2.1 innings of scoreless relief after Craig Frydendall was roughed up in the middle innings. Wes Faust gave up a run in relief.
Garry Templeton was ejected from the game in the 8th inning.
The Flyers will try and even the series with the last place Scorpions Wednesday night with Chris Jakubauskas on the mound.
