Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston RiverDogs have announced that Southern Eagle Distributing has been recognized as the recipient of the Charleston club's T. Ashton Phillips Distinguished Service Award, recognizing an individual or organization that has had a positive impact with the RiverDogs Baseball Club's operation.
Through their partnership with the RiverDogs, the local Budweiser distributor has worked to give back to the Charleston community through their support of the military. Southern Eagle partnered with the RiverDogs to host the Salute to Service Concert on May 25 this past spring. The star-studded concert featured national recording artists Brothers Osborne with all proceeds supporting Folds of Honor, which provides academic scholarships to the family of fallen and disabled veterans.
"Southern Eagle has been a tremendous partner of baseball in Charleston, and a tremendous asset to the community with their work supporting Folds of Honor and several other great organizations," said RiverDogs President and General Manager Dave Echols. "This year's Salute to Service Concert was a tremendous event that supported a great cause as one of several ways our partners have helped give back to the Charleston community."
The RiverDogs selectively honor organizations and individuals with the T. Ashton Phillips Award, named after the late RiverDogs co-owner, who was local businessman who passed away in May of 2006. Phillips, a resident of Charleston since 1969, co-founded Carolina Eastern, Inc., one of the largest, privately owned fertilizer companies in the country. His love of the outdoors and baseball led him to join the RiverDogs ownership group and he could be seen on a nightly basis enjoying the games from his seats in Section 108 at The Joe.
Recent recipients of the Phillips Award have included Bill Lamson-Scribner in 2017, Agustus Holt in 2016, and Mickey Bakst the year prior.
With the help of Southern Eagle and the club's other partners, the RiverDogs had another successful season at the gates, eclipsing over 300,000 fans through the turnstiles for the second straight season and only the second time in club history.
The RiverDogs have been a tremendous ally to the armed forces and were most recently recognized by Minor League Baseball as the recipient of the Charles K. Murphy Patriot Award in 2016, presented to a team or individual in Minor League Baseball for outstanding support of the United States Armed Forces and veterans, both at the ballpark and in the community. This past season, Echols was named an Air Mobility Command (AMC) Civic Leader to represent Joint Base Charleston in several leadership conferences as a representative of Joint Base Charleston, among others.
Charleston's season ends on Monday's Labor Day matinee with first pitch starting at 2:05 p.m. at The Joe. The RiverDogs will send right-hander Miguel Yajure (4-3, 3.62) to face West Virginia righty Sergio Cubilete (5-5, 5.23) in a potentially decisive game to clinch a postseason berth for the Power. The game will be broadcast online only via MiLB.tv and streaming audio via the RiverDogs' TuneIn Radio station. There is also a one-day sale with $2 ticket options for the final game of the campaign. Ticket information can be secured by contacting the box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com.
RiverDogs season tickets, including options to the Riley Park Club, are now available for the 2019 campaign. The RiverDogs begin their home schedule on April 11 when they host the Greensboro Grasshoppers at The Joe, preceded by a weeklong road trip.
