
Southern Derby Rivals Split Points

Matthews (NC) - The Charlotte Independence professional soccer team battled Southern Derby rivals Charleston Battery to a scoreless draw on Friday night.
One of the Independence's best first half chance came in the 25th minute when forward Enzo Martinez connected with Valentin Sabella for a left footed shot tipped away by Battery goalkeeper Joe Kuzminsky.
In the second half, the Battery out-shot the Independence nine to one. Independence goalkeeper Brandon Miller came up with the Wells Fargo Save of the Game in the 77th minute when his finger tip push of midfielder Angelo Kelly-Rosales shot. Miller totaled three saves en route to his forth clean sheet of the season.
The Independence will continue in USL Championship action next Saturday, September 7th for Noche Latina presented by Wells Fargo. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET and tickets are available at charlotteindependence.com.
