South Bend Sweeps Dragons in Tuesday Doubleheader

South Bend, Ind.-The South Bend Silver Hawks extended their winning streak to seven straight games on Tuesday night as they swept a doubleheader from the Dayton Dragons, winning game one 5-2 and taking the second game 8-4.

The losses dropped the Dragons to 11-6 on the season as they lost back-to-back games for only the second time. The Dragons dropped out of first place in the Eastern Division of the Midwest League for the first time since April 9. They trail the Great Lakes Loons by one-half game. South Bend is 11-7, one game out of first.

In game one, South Bend starting pitcher Aaron Blair (1-1) fired a seven-inning complete game, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned) with two walks and six strikeouts. Beau Amaral had two of the Dragons four hits. He scored a run and drove in one.

In the second game, the Silver Hawks pounded out 14 hits. All nine players in their batting order had at least one hit. The Dragons got a game-tying two-run home run by Sebastian Elizalde in the top of the fourth inning to knot the score at 2-2, but South Bend answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning and two more in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead. Dayton's Tanner Rahier lined a two-run double in the top of the sixth to make it 6-4, but South Bend added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to close out the scoring.

The Dragons had five hits in game two. Rahier and Carlton Daal each had two. The home run by Elizalde was his team-leading third of the season.

The Dragons battle the Silver Hawks again on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. (EDT) in South Bend. Ismael Guillon (1-0, 1.65) will start for Dayton against South Bend's Adam Miller (1-0, 1.42).
