Sounds Slug Redbirds in Season Finale

MEMPHIS, TN - Nashville avoided a series sweep with a 9-2 win over Memphis Monday afternoon in front of 10,022 fans at AutoZone Park in the last game of the 2011 season.

The Sounds jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in the first inning with a two-run home run hit by Jordan Brown. 'Birds Adron Chambers reached home on an error by Sounds third baseman Mat Gamel after hitting a leadoff triple. Another two-run homer, this time by Anderson Machado was hit in the fourth before the Redbirds sent home their last run on the game in the bottom of the frame as Hamilton headed home on another error by Gamel. Nashville put up one run in the sixth and five more in the ninth to end the game.

Mike Fiers earned his eighth win on the season allowing two unearned runs on three hits over five innings while striking out four. Memphis starter Brian Broderick gave up five runs, four earned, on seven hits across seven innings pitched while walking one and striking out one for the loss.

The Redbirds open up the 2012 season on the road in Oklahoma City, Thursday, April 5. They will head to AutoZone Park for their first homestand on Friday, August 13 with a four-game series against the Oklahoma City RedHawks and a four-game series against the New Orleans Zephyrs.
