NASHVILLE — Nashville shortstop Aaron Holbert stole home in the bottom of the first inning to give the home team a 1-0 advantage and the Sounds went on to post a 4-2 victory over the Pacific Coast League-leading Las Vegas 51s on Sunday afternoon at Greer Stadium.

Nashville improved to 20-9 overall and 13-4 at home with the victory. Las Vegas continues to hold a slim grasp as the top team in the league, falling to 22-9 with the loss.

Holbert's first-inning theft was the first of his season-best three swipes in the game and was the Sounds' third steal of home in the young season. The Sounds doubled their advantage in the second when Humberto Cota (2-for-4) ripped a two-out double to left-center and scored a batter later on an RBI single by Tomas de la Rosa, who went 2-for-4 in the contest.

Las Vegas got on the board in the fifth when Calvin Murray scored on an infield groundout. Nashville tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh frames on a Cota RBI single and Jeff Reboulet's RBI double. The 51s closed out the day's scoring in the top of the ninth when Chris Clapinski (2-for-3) tripled into the right-field corner and scored on a Murray groundout.

Holbert's three steals were the most by a Sounds player since Adrian Brown swiped three bags against Portland on August 15, 2002. Tike Redman entered the game as a seventh-inning defensive replacement for the Sounds and stole his PCL-leading 14th base of the season. He is a perfect 14-for-14 in steal attempts this season. Murray, who finished 2-for-4 on the day, tallied three thefts in the contest for Las Vegas in the losing effort.

Nashville starter John Wasdin (3-0) remained undefeated on the season, picking up the victory after allowing only one run and fanning four over six innings. Las Vegas starter Victor Alvarez (1-1) was tagged with his first loss of the year after allowing two runs over 4.0 innings.

The Sounds and 51s wrap up the four-game series with their final regular season meeting of the 2003 season at 7 p.m. on Monday evening at Greer Stadium. Nashville right-hander Matt Guerrier (0-0) will face Las Vegas right-hander Scott Winchester (0-2).
