July 7, 2021 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Seattle Sounders FC News Release

SEATTLE, WASH - Currently tied for the league record with 12 games unbeaten to start a season, Sounders FC (7-0-5, 26 points) hosts Houston Dynamo FC (3-3-6, 15 points) on Wednesday evening at Lumen Field (6:00 p.m. PT / JOEtv, Prime Video, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM). Seattle is the fifth team in MLS history to start a season with at 12 games unbeaten, tied for the league record. The 12-match unbeaten run is also tied for the second longest in club history at any point in a single season, one shy of the club record of 13 set in 2017.

Fans and media are reminded that in addition to tonight's Sounders FC contest, the Seattle Mariners are taking on the New York Yankees at T-Mobile Park this evening at 7:10 p.m. PT. A large crowd is expected in Sodo for the two contests, and early arrival for tonight's match is advised.

Sounders FC today announced that it has signed Tacoma Defiance midfielder Juan Alvarez to a Short-Term Agreement, making him available for the club's match tonight vs. Houston. International callups and injuries to players on Seattle's roster have made the club eligible for Extreme Hardship. As a result, the Rave Green have signed Alvarez from the club's USL Championship affiliate to a short-term loan for Wednesday's match.

GAME NOTES FOR WEDNESDAY'S MATCH VS. HOUSTON

Wednesday's match is being broadcast locally on JOEtv in addition to a regional stream on Prime Video, featuring Keith Costigan, Steve Zakuani and current Sounders FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei on the call. Frei, the club's all-time leader in goalkeeper wins, saves and shutouts, in addition to winning two MLS Cups, makes his debut on television while he recovers from injury. Brad Evans, Marcus Hahnemann and Lamar Neagle are providing pre-match, halftime and post-match TV coverage, while Jackson Felts, Pete Fewing and Danny Jackson do the same for radio. El Rey 1360 AM is broadcasting Wednesday's match in Spanish, featuring Zuper Mario Rodriguez, Felipe Maqueda, Carlos Tapia and Marlo Vilela on the call.

Sounders FC is 10-4-6 all-time against Houston in MLS regular season action, in addition to a 2-1-1 record in the postseason. The Rave Green are unbeaten in 12 home MLS fixtures against Dynamo FC (9-0-3), including a seven-match winning streak overall dating back to March of 2017 (including postseason).

Midfielder Cristian Roldan joined the U.S. Men's National Team for this month's Concacaf Gold Cup and is unavailable for Wednesday's match. His brother Alex also earned his first career international callup for the Gold Cup, representing El Salvador and will depart following Wednesday's match vs. Houston.

Sounders FC returns to action on Sunday, July 18 with a road match against Minnesota United FC at Allianz Field (11:00 a.m. PT / ESPN, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).
