Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. - Sounders FC today announced that the club has agreed to an intra-league loan with Los Angeles FC, sending midfielder Aaron Kovar to Southern California for the 2018 campaign and granting LAFC the option to buy the player's rights at the conclusion of the season. The four-year pro has made 44 appearances across all competitions for Seattle since signing as a Homegrown Player in 2014, scoring three goals, in addition to registering 25 appearances and two goals for Sounders FC 2 in USL action.
"This is an excellent opportunity for Aaron to gain playing experience and further his development as a player with exposure to another club," said Sounders FC General Manager & President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey. "LAFC provides a new, competitive environment for Aaron and we feel this loan benefits all parties."
Kovar, 24, signed with Sounders FC as a Homegrown Player prior to the 2014 season after two standout campaigns at Stanford, where he was the 2012 PAC-12 Freshman of the Year. The Seattle native has 32 career MLS regular-season appearances - scoring his lone league goal on May 28, 2016 at New England - in addition to six appearances apiece in CONCACAF Champions League and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play, including two goals in the 2017 Open Cup. The Garfield High School product has an additional 25 appearances and two goals for S2 in USL play from 2015-2017.
The 2018 Sounders FC preseason presented by adidas begins this week before the MLS regular season kicks-off on March 4. Prior to that, Sounders FC is set to face Salvadoran club Santa Tecla FC in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League, the region's premier club championship, with the first leg in El Salvador on February 22 and the second leg at CenturyLink Field on March 1. Sounders FC season tickets are still available, including new 2018 seating options in the 300 level, with full information available at SoundersFC.com or by calling 877-MLS-GOAL.
