June 2, 2019 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Seattle Sounders FC News Release
FRISCO, TEX. - A pair of Seattle own goals resulted in a 2-1 road loss for Sounders FC (7-3-5, 26 points) in a Saturday evening matchup with FC Dallas (6-6-3, 21 points) at Toyota Stadium. Raúl RuidÃaz scored the lone goal for Seattle in a match that kicked off over 90 minutes later than scheduled due to weather. Following Saturday's match, Sounders FC heads straight to Montreal to conclude its four-match road swing on Wednesday against the Impact (4:30 p.m. PT / JOEtv, YouTube TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).
Saturday's match at Toyota Stadium began over 90 minutes later than scheduled due to a weather delay. With lightning in the area, two sides kicked off at 8:47 p.m. CT.
In the 33rd minute, Michael Barrios sent a long cross from the left side to Ryan Hollingshead, whose header deflected off Xavier Arreaga and into the net for an own goal. The home side made it 2-0 just five minutes later on another own goal, marking the first time in club history that Sounders FC has surrendered two own goals in a single match. After a quick restart on a free kick from the left side, Barrios sent a low, dangerous cross across to a crowd in front of goal that redirected off Brad Smith's foot into the goal.
RuidÃaz pulled one back for the Rave Green in the 65th minute for his team-leading sixth goal of the season and 19th in 26 appearances across all competitions since coming to Seattle last summer. After an Alex Roldan interception in the Dallas half, Will Bruin back-heeled a pass to RuidÃaz at the top of the area for a shot from distance to cut the lead in half.
Following Saturday's match, Brian Schmetzer's club travels to Montreal for the lone match of the season against the Impact (6-7-3, 21 points) on Wednesday, June 5 at Stade Saputo (4:30 p.m. PT / JOEtv, YouTube TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).
