Seattle Sounders FC News Release

SEATTLE, WASH. - Building on the success of the inaugural event in 2021, Sounders FC and OL Reign today announced that the two teams are once again partnering to offer an exclusive doubleheader matchday at Lumen Field in 2023.

The doubleheader - which provides soccer fans in the Puget Sound the unique opportunity to see both their men's and women's topflight professional teams play at the same venue on the same day in back-to-back gameday action - is scheduled for next season, with date and opponent yet to be determined, though scheduling will center on marquee matches.

"We are so excited to again work with OL Reign on this special event," said Sounders FC Owner & President of Business Operations Peter Tomozawa. "Last season's doubleheader was a true showcase of the passion this region has for soccer, with an NWSL attendance record set as crowds flocked to cheer on our exceptional Reign and Sounders athletes. We recognize how much the doubleheader means to the community and have heard the calls for its return. We're proud to be able to give our fans this opportunity."

"After our incredible experience last season in front of over 27,000 supporters, we are thrilled to bring back another epic doubleheader with the Sounders. During our first season at Lumen Field, we have seen a consistent growth in attendance, and we anticipate this day to be another record-breaking milestone for our club," said OL Reign CEO Vincent Berthillot. "Increasing the reach and visibility of the Women's game has always been a top priority of our organization, and this doubleheader will align with that objective during a year that will be key for women's soccer with the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup."

While both Sounders FC and OL Reign call Lumen Field home, the two teams playing home matches on the same day is a unique event. The doubleheader in 2021 was a first for Seattle's MLS and NWSL sides and saw both teams battle archrivals the Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns, respectively, drawing a NWSL-record crowd of 27,248 for OL Reign's match, followed by 45,737 for Sounders FC.

As in 2021, next season's doubleheader is being treated as a single-ticketed event, with one ticket providing access to both games.

2023 Sounders FC's Season Ticket Members receive the Reign match as part of their existing ticket package. Deposits for 2023 Season Ticket Memberships can be found at SoundersFC.com/Tickets/Deposits.
