Bridgeport Islanders News Release
Harry Zolnierczyk tied the game with 12.1 seconds left and Anders Lee won it in overtime, as the Sound Tigers won a thriller over the Springfield Falcons, 4-3.
Lee tallied two goals against the Falcons but it was his OT marker just 21 seconds into the extra frame that earned him first star of the game and gave the Sound Tigers their third win of the season.
Zolniercyck tied the game at three with a power play goal in the dying moments of the third frame. Trailing the Falcons 3-2 and with one minute left in regulation, the Sound Tigers pulled goaltender Kevin Poulin from the net. Falcons defenseman Will Weber received his second penalty of the night, giving the Sound Tigers a 6-on-4 advantage - which ultimately led to Zolnierczyk's tying goal.
The Sound Tigers capitalized on the power play as all three-regulation goals came from having a man advantage.
Early in the contest, Springfield's Ryan Craig scored to put them up 1-0 at the close of the first frame and Domenic Monardo's second period goal gave them a 2-0 lead.
Jesse Graham registered the first goal of the game for Bridgeport near the end of the second to cut the Falcons lead in half. Weber's first penalty of the game was a two-minute minor for holding giving the Sound Tigers their first opportunity to capitalize on the extra man advantage. Graham's one-time shot off a pass from Kael Mouillierat blasted past Falcons goaltender Oscar Dansk.
Then it was Lee, who tallied his first goal of the night at the 7:56 mark of the third frame. The power play goal tied the game 2-2 - C.J. Stretch and Ryan Pulock notched assists on the goal.
An unassisted goal from Springfield forward Andrew Cherniwichan gave them a 3-2 lead with 3:18 left to play in the third period. Zolnierczyck's goal forced the game to go into a seven-minute overtime, which ended with a 4-3 Sound Tigers victory as Lee scored within a minute of overtime play.
Notes: Jesse Graham notched his first goal of the season and his first goal at Webster Bank Arena...Three Sound Tigers had two-point games: Harry Zolnierczyck (1G, 1A), Anders Lee (2G) and C.J. Stretch (2A).
