Falcons Drop 4-3 Decision to Sound Tigers in Overtime

Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons dropped a 4-3 decision to the Sound Tigers in overtime today at the Webster Bank Arena.
The loss completes a three game skid and pushes the Falcons to 1-3-0-0 on the season. The Sound Tigers are now 3-2-0-0 with a 1-0-0-0 lead in the season series with the Falcons. The teams will face each other seven more times this season.
Falcons goaltender Oscar Dansk turned away 34 of 38 shots, while his Sound Tigers counterpart Kevin Poulin stopped 30 of 33. Springfield was unable to convert on five power play opportunities. Bridgeport was successful on three of their seven man-advantages.
The Falcons struck first and carried a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Ryan Craig skated the puck into the Sound Tiger's zone and passed over to T.J. Tynan at the right point. Tynan's feed back to Craig was deflected off of Scott Mayfield's stick. Craig picked up the deflected puck and backhanded a shot past Poulin at the 8:12 mark. Tynan pick up his first pro point on the play, while Sean Collins earned credit for the secondary assist.
Both teams lit the lamp once in the second stanza, giving the Falcons a 2-1 lead after forty minutes. Poulin stopped Austin Madaisky's low shot from the left circle, but the puck deflected off his pads and into the slot. Domenic Monardo picked up the rebound and chipped it in to put the Falcons up, 2-0, at the 11:20 mark. Monardo has scored in all three games for the Falcons this weekend. Bridgeport finally responded with a power-play goal with 21 seconds remaining in the period. C.J. Stretch won the faceoff to the left of Dansk. Harry Zolnierczyk took control of the puck and kicked it out to Jesse Graham at the right point. Graham scored on a slap shot through traffic.
Although the Falcons scored once more in the third, the Sound Tigers were able to make a late rally and force overtime. Bridgeport evened the score at the 7:56 with another power-play goal. Ryan Pulock blasted a shot from the left point that was stopped by Dansk. Stretch settled the rebound and passed back to Anders Lee, who one-timed it from the left circle. Andrew Cherniwchan put the Falcons back on top, going coast to coast and splitting the Sound Tigers defense for an unassisted goal with 3:18 remaining. A late power-play goal by Zolniercyk with 13 seconds in regulation forced overtime.
Bridgeport topped Springfield just 41 second into the overtime period. Aaron Ness shot a feed out to Lee from behind the net. Lee chipped in from the slot to give the Sound Tigers a 4-3 victory.
The Falcons will travel to face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and start their next three-in-three on Friday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
