Hershey Bears News Release

For the second time this season, the Sound Tigers have been able to end a losing streak at the hands of the Hershey Bears. Tonight, Joey MacDonald posted his second shutout of the season in the team's 4-0 victory over the Bears. The Sound Tigers received goals from four different players, Jeff Tambellini, Sean Bentivoglio, Steve Regier and Kip Brennan.

"We've struggled a bit this season to put the puck in the net, but it was nice to put four goals past their goalie tonight to earn this victory," Sound Tigers assistant captain, Jeff Tambellini said during his first star interview on the ice.

Tambellini gave the Sound Tigers the 1-0 lead, 16:03 into the opening period on his fifth goal of the season. With the Sound Tigers on the power-play, Ryan Kinasewich fed a pass to Tambellini who was stationed at the point. Tambellini fired a shot through a screen towards Bears' goalie, Daren Machesney that found its way over Machesney's blocker. Steve Regier had the second assist on the goal.

In the second period, Sean Bentivoglio increased his point-scoring streak to three games when he shoveled a back-hand shot past Machesney just 3:47 into the frame. Sound Tigers' defenseman Andrew MacDonald fed a pass down low to Tambellini who threw a shot from the corner on goal hoping for a rebound. His idea worked as the puck trickled to Bentivoglio who finished his second goal of the season, giving the Sound Tigers the 2-0 lead. About 10 minutes later, the Sound Tigers took a commanding lead when Steve Regier scored his team leading sixth goal of the season. Darryl Bootland skated into the Hershey end on an odd-man rush with Regier, but chose to drop the puck to a pinching Drew Fata. Fata one-timed the pass but Machesney made the save. Unable to control the rebound, Regier back-handed the puck into the net for the 3-0 lead.

In the third period, the Bears were looking for redemption as team-enforcer, Louis Robitaille was taking liberties on several Sound Tiger players. Five minutes into the third period, Robitaille sucker punched Sound Tigers' Blake Comeau and earned himself two minutes in the penalty box. On his way to the box, Fata and Pascal Morency had words with Robitaille because they did not like that he was going after some of the team's more skilled players.

As soon as Robitaille finished serving his two minutes, Morency found him and the two tough guys exchanged punches. Sound Tigers' enforcer, and Morency's roommate, Brennan, appreciated Morency's efforts, especially since Morency gives up 20 pounds and two inches to the bigger Robitaille, and put himself on the score sheet as well with a power-play goal to close out any hopes of a late comeback for Hershey. Jeremy Colliton dug the puck out of corner and fed it to his line-mate, Comeau, behind the net. Comeau took a peak over his shoulder and sent a no look pass to Brennan who was crashing the net. Brennan leaned into a shot, sending the puck to the far post just past Machesney's stick for the convincing 4-0 shutout victory over the Bears.

MacDonald stopped all 24 shots he faced as Hershey's net-minder, Machesney, had 33 saves on 37 shots. The Sound Tigers were 2-12 on the power-play and 6-6 on the penalty kill.
