
Sound Tigers Settle For One Point

The Providence Bruins overcame a 3-1 third period deficit to defeat the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 4-3 in a shootout before 4,975 fans at the Arena at Harbor Yard on Sunday afternoon. The Bruins have won each of the two meetings between the teams this season in shootouts. Despite the loss, the Sound Tigers have earned at least a point in four consecutive games. The Bruins won their fourth straight and improved to 20-18-1-2 and the Sound Tigers fell to 16-16-1-4.
Petr Kalus scored the lone shootout goal, in the third round, and Providence goaltender Jordan Sigalet stopped Blake Comeau in the fifth and final round to seal the win.
The Sound Tigers built leads of 2-0 and 3-1 before the Bruins rallied behind goals by Klaus, at 6:09 of the final period, and Bobby Allen at the 17:08 mark.
Robert Nilsson assisted on all three Sound Tiger goals, and linemate Frans Nielsen added a pair of assists. Defenseman Mark Wotton scored his second of the year for a 1-0 Sound Tiger lead at 14:42 of the opening period on a blast from the point through a screen. Jeff Tambellini scored his team leading 19th goal at 15:35 of the second for a 2-0 Sound Tiger lead before Providence's Yan Stastny cut the deficit in half at 16:41 of the second. The Sound Tigers regained their two-goal advantage when Nilsson set up Eric Boguniecki on the power play just 1:02 into the third.
Sound Tiger goaltender Wade Dubielewicz stopped 41 of 44 regulation and overtime shots by the Bruins. He denied Stastny on a shorthanded breakaway attempt during regulation and stopped T.J. Trevelyan on a two-on-one Providence break for one of six overtime saves. Sigalet made 19 saves on 22 regulation and OT shots.
The Bruins were 0-for-3 on the power play and the Sound Tigers went 1-for-3 on the man advantage.
Members of the former New Haven Nighthawks were honored during a special pregame ceremony and stuck around to sign autographs after the game.
