Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, Conn.- The Bridgeport Sound Tigers, proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, capped off a perfect preseason with a 4-0 exhibition victory over the Providence Bruins at Wonderland of Ice on Saturday.
Forwards Bracken Kearns, Aaron Berisha, Travis St. Denis and Darren Nowick all scored, while goaltender Christopher Gibson and Stephon Williams combined for a 23-save shutout. The win moved Bridgeport's preseason record to 2-0, in which they outscored opponents 8-1. In addition, the line of Berisha, St. Denis and Andrew Rowe combined for five of the team's eight goals during exhibition play.
Kearns opened the scoring just eight minutes into the game with a power play goal for his first of the preseason. Following a cross-checking call at the 6:23 mark, Kearns skated to the doorstep and jammed home Jon Landry's pass for the only tally of the first period.
After a scoreless middle frame, Berisha doubled Bridgeport's lead when he beat Zane McIntyre from the low slot on play set up by St. Denis. The goal was Berisha's first of the preseason, which came just 62 seconds into the third period.
St. Denis put the Sound Tigers up 3-0 when he camped out at the doorstep and finished a rebound chance for his second of the preseason at 7:27 of the third period. Berisha and Carter Verhaeghe were credited with the helpers.
Nowick completed the scoring at 16:21 of the third with his first goal of the preseason. The rookie forward made it 4-0 by skating to the low slot and funneling a shot through McIntyre's pads. Loic Leduc and Josh Holmstrom each received an assist.
The Sound Tigers finished the game 1-for-3 on the power play and 1-for-1 on the penalty kill. Bridgeport outshot Providence 26-23.
