Hartford Wolf Pack News Release
Cromwell, CT - The Hartford Wolf Pack completed their preseason slate Sunday with a 2-0 loss to the Albany Devils at Champions Skating Center.
Ken Appleby stopped all 26 shots he faced in the Devil net, and Brian Gibbons, a former Wolf Pack forward, and Rod Pelley scored second-period goals for Albany. Magnus Hellberg made 32 saves for Hartford.
The first period was scoreless, with the best chances being a Gibbons shot that hit the crossbar behind Hellberg with about 4:30 remaining and a Nicklas Jensen breakaway opportunity that Appleby denied with 52 seconds left on the clock.
Gibbons scored what would turn out to be the game-winner at 4:36 of the second period, burying a breakaway opportunity high into the net, off of a lead pass from Joshua Jacobs.
Then, shortly after Appleby stopped Michael Joly on a breakaway, the Devils would increase their lead to 2-0 on a goal by Pelley at 13:17. Ryan Kujawinski fed the puck from the right side to Karl Stollery at the opposite point, and Pelley deflected Stollery's snap shot just through the pads of Hellberg.
Albany did a solid job of preventing any Wolf Pack threats in the third period, outshooting their hosts by a margin of 12-6 in the final frame.
