
Sound Tigers Lose To Portland 3-2

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, lost 3-2 at home to the Portland Pirates Sunday. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak that saw the Sound Tigers win a pair of road games in overtime.
Portland took a 1-0 lead 10:44 into the first period when Jared Aulin scored his seventh goal of the season off assists from Brian Willsie and Trent Whitfield.
The Pirates upped their lead to 2-0 when Graham Mink scored his 12th goal of the season, unassisted, at the 8:10 mark of the second period.
Just 3:45 later, the Sound Tigers cut the lead to 2-1 with a power-play goal as Eric Godard swept home the rebound of a Justin Mapletoft shot for his career-high seventh goal and 14th point of the season. Bruno Gervais also assisted on the play. The Sound Tigers then tied the score at 2-2 when Steve Regier notched his fifth goal of the season off assists from Ryan Caldwell and Barrett Heisten with 3:50 left in the middle frame.
Portland regained the lead at 3-2 just 3:46 into the third period when Aulin scored his second goal of the game, his eighth of the season, on a two-on-none rush. Shaone Morrisonn earned the only assist on the eventual game-winner.
Aulin was the first star of the game, Regier was the second and Pirates goalie Kirk Daubenspeck was the third with 29 saves. Sound Tiger goalie Wade Dubielewicz made 25 saves in a losing effort. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 3 on the power play, 6 for 6 on the penalty kill and lost despite having a 31-28 shots on goal advantage.
The Sound Tigers will visit the Philadelphia Phantoms this Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. and return home to host them this Friday at 7:35 p.m. The Sound Tigers will also host the Norfolk Admirals this Saturday at 7:05 p.m. All three games will be web cast live at www.soundtigers.com. Wednesday's game is also scheduled to be broadcast live on 600 WICC-AM.
