Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, Conn.- Jake Bischoff and Josh Winquist each scored Tuesday morning, boosting the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (43-24-3-1), proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, to their fourth straight win in a 2-1 decision over the Springfield Thunderbirds (29-31-9-2) in front of 7,012 energetic fans at Webster Bank Arena.

Between the pipes, Eamon McAdam made 19 saves for his fourth straight win, which also helped the Sound Tigers to a 3-0-0-0 record in school-day games this season. For Bischoff, his second-period goal was his first professional game-winning tally, and his second goal overall in three games.

With the win, the Sound Tigers padded their lead over the fifth-place Hershey Bears for the final playoff spot in the Atlantic Division. Bridgeport is now three points ahead of Hershey with the same amount of games played. Bridgeport has five games left in the regular season.

The Sound Tigers opened the scoring at 8:40 of the first period with a power-play goal from Winquist. With Ed Wittchow in the box for interference, Ryan Pulock forced a diagonal pass to the high slot where Winquist hammered a one-timer over Sam Brittain's glove for his 15th goal of the season. Tim Wallace also earned an assist on the play.

Springfield bounced back less than three minutes later and tied the game when Thomas Schemitsch recorded his first AHL goal. Stephen MacAulay set it up, controlling the puck along the right boards and passing it back to Schemitsch at the right point. The defenseman surveyed his options and opted to force a wrist shot to the doorstep that filtered past McAdam with a screen in front.

Bridgeport regained the lead courtesy of Bischoff at 7:20 of the middle frame. Patrick Cullity handled the puck in the offensive zone and slid a pass across to Bischoff at the right point, a similar position as to where Schemitsch netted the previous goal. From there, the rookie defenseman slapped a rocket through traffic and over Brittain's glove to make it 2-1.

Springfield outshot Bridgeport 20-18, while Brittain (4-4-0) made 16 saves in the Thunderbirds' loss.

The Sound Tigers went 1-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
