Bridgeport Islanders News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT â The American Hockey League's 2001-02 Regular Season Champion and Eastern Conference Playoff Champion Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, released Center Adam Edinger from a professional tryout contract today. The Sound Tigers had also released Center Tyler Rennette and Goaltender Scott Stirling from PTOs Saturday and reassigned Left Wing Graham Belak to the East Coast Hockey League's Cincinnati Cyclones Monday. All moves follow the Sound Tigers' completion of a three-game sweep of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series with the Manchester Monarchs Friday.
Edinger and Rennette signed PTOs with the Sound Tigers on April 10th and appeared in games one and two of the series with Manchester. Stirling signed a PTO with the Sound Tigers on January 24th, was released on March 4th and re-signed on March 11th. During the regular season, he appeared in ten games for the Sound Tigers posting an 8-2 record, 2.41 goals against average and a .918 save percentage. Belak began the regular season with the Sound Tigers, was loaned to the ECHL's Trenton Titans on November 18th, was reassigned to Cincinnati on December 2nd, was recalled on February 13th, was reassigned to the Cyclones on February 22nd and was recalled again on March 19th. He recorded one assist and 60 penalty minutes in 30 regular-season games with the Sound Tigers and also dressed for games two and three of the series with the Monarchs.
The Sound Tigers will face either the Binghamton Senators or the Hamilton Bulldogs in the next round, the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals, of the Calder Cup Playoffs. They will begin the next round on the road, and their next opponent will be determined by the result of the quarterfinal series between the Providence Bruins and Manitoba Moose, which will resume tonight in Manitoba. The Moose currently lead the Bruins two games to one. If Manitoba wins that series, the Sound Tigers will face Binghamton in the semi-finals. If Providence wins, the Sound Tigers will face Hamilton.
