BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - During the 2014-15 season, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers teamed up with ShopRite for their 'Goals for Groceries' program. With ShopRite's assistance in sponsoring the program, the Sound Tigers collected and donated over 2,000 pounds of food to the Bridgeport Veterans Affair Center.
"Grade A ShopRite was happy to partner with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the Goals for Groceries Program which raised thousands of pounds of food to benefit those in need," said Chip Cingari of the Cingari Family, owners of ShopRite locations throughout Fairfield and New Haven Counties.
Harry Garafalo, who also owns multiple ShopRite stores in the region, was instrumental in the partnership between the stores and the Sound Tigers.
"Over the last year, we have had a productive partnership with the folks at Harbor Yard Sports & Entertainment for raising the awareness of hunger in the area and collecting donations of food at the arena that was donated to local food pantries," Garafalo said. "Our family run ShopRite stores would like to thank everyone at HYSE and the Sound Tigers for their hard work and support."
For the past three seasons, fans have been encouraged to bring 10 or more canned goods to any Sunday Sound Tigers game. While the food is donated to a good cause, the fans also receive a voucher to a future Sound Tigers game.
"Any partnership that puts our community first is a real win on and off the ice," said Cian Stein, Sr. Vice President of Sales for the Sound Tigers. "We were thrilled to partner with ShopRite and the Goals for Groceries campaign this past season.
"Being able to raise awareness on hunger in our state and fill much needed food pantries, especially around the holidays, is a winning goal. A big thanks goes out to ShopRite for their loyal support. We are looking forward to making this a long-lasting community initiative."
For each Sound Tigers home goal, ShopRite made a donation to the Partners In Caring program. The 2014-15 season saw 106 total donations to Partners in Caring to help fight hunger.
