Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The new treehouse at Rochester Rotary Sunshine Campus is the star of a national television show airing Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 9:00 p.m., with an appearance by players from the Rochester Americans.
DIY Network's series "The Treehouse Guys" will feature construction of the fully accessible wooden treehouse on an episode debuting Tuesday (Time Warner Digital Cable, Channel 161; DIRECTV, Channel 230). DIY Network, from the makers of HGTV and Food Network, covers a broad range of programming categories, including home improvement and landscaping.
The first of its kind in the Finger Lakes region, the fully accessible treehouse features wheelchair-accessible ramps, wide platforms, sensory equipment for enhanced learning, a cabin enclosure and treetop views for campers. Built between existing trees at the campus, the treehouse rises to a maximum height of 22 feet above the ground.
Current and former members of the Amerks, including Mark Pysyk, Tim Schaller, Jake McCabe, Luke Adam, Matt MacKenzie and Nick Petrecki, spent a day assisting in the construction of the treehouse and even faced-off with The Treehouse Guys in a street hockey game.
Designed and built by The Treehouse Guys, a nationally renowned firm that has constructed accessible treehouses across the country, the treehouse opened this summer. It is named "My Treehouse" to allow each camper to feel personal ownership and pride about the treehouse.
Rochester Rotary Sunshine Campus hosts summer camps held by Rochester Rotary, as well as by the American Diabetes Association, AutismUp, Camp Haccamo, Camp Joy, Heritage Christian Services, Mary Cariola Children's Center, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Reach for the Stars, and Volunteers of America.
Donations are being accepted to help area children enjoy the Sunshine Campus, the treehouse and the camp's other amenities. For more information, interested donors can contact Rochester Rotary Executive Director Tracey Dreisbach at 585.546.7435, ext. 215 or Tracey@rochesterrotary.org.
