Somerset Clobbers Camden 9-2

Camden, NJ - The Somerset Patriots (30-13) defeated the Camden Riversharks (14-31) 9-2 Wednesday evening from Campbell's Field to even the three game midweek series.

In the top of the first inning third baseman Corey Smith hit a RBI sacrifice fly to give Somerset an early 1-0 lead.

Catcher Adam Donachie blasted a solo home run (3) to left-center field in the top of the second inning to increase the Patriots' lead to 2-0.

In the top of the third inning Smith hit into a double play but Aharon Eggleston was able to score to expand the lead to 3-0.

Donachie slugged his second homer (4) of the game on a two run shot to left-center field while Eggleston smacked a line drive solo home run (3) three batters later to right field to make the score 6-0 in the top of the fourth inning

Eggleston added a run via a RBI groundout in the top of the sixth inning as the Patriots led by a touchdown 7-0.

The Riversharks scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on first baseman Raul Padron's homer (4) to right field making the score 7-1.

Designated hitter Jake Fox slapped a two RBI single in the top of the eighth inning to make the score 9-1 in favor of Somerset.

In the ensuing half inning Padron drew a bases loaded walk to plate a run making the score 9-2 which would be the final.

Brad Thompson (4-1) earned the winning tossing eight brilliant innings scattering just six hits while allowing two runs. Josh Walter (2-5) suffered the loss as he pitched four innings while giving up six runs.

The 2013 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, June 7th when they return home to take on the Sugar Land Skeeters at 7:05 p.m. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Ballpark Replica courtesy of TD Bank as part of the team's 15th Anniversary Celebration of TD Bank Ballpark.
