Solid Pitching Lifts Voyagers to Series Win

Great Falls, MT - The Voyagers produced one of their best pitching nights of the season with a season-high tying 13 strikeouts in a series-clinching 3-2 win over Billings Friday night at Centene Stadium. Great Falls (7-11) is now on a two-game winning streak and improved to 4-3 at home. Billings (7-13) fell to 3-6 on the road. The Voyagers are 4-4 against the Mustangs this season.
Billings started the scoring for a third straight night. The Mustangs took a 1-0 lead in the third after Cash Case led off with a bunt single to third against a shift. Valentin Martinez followed with a single to right-center. A fielder's choice pushed Case to third, and he scored on a wild pitch.
The Voyagers tied the game with one swing on a leadoff, fifth inning home run by Sam Abbott. Abbott's line drive dinger to right-center just cleared the wall for his second of the season.
After the Mustangs reclaimed the lead with an unearned run in the sixth, Great Falls took the lead for good with two in the bottom of the seventh. Sam Abbott lined a single into center with one out. Abbott moved to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Jakob Goldfarb coaxed a walk. Cameron Simmons came through in the clutch with a game-tying single to center that scored Abbott. The go-ahead run came across on a wild pitch that plated Goldfarb from third for a 3-2 lead.
Four Voyager pitchers combined on a four-hitter. Rigo Fernandez picked up the win in relief. Fernandez (2-0) went two innings and gave up an unearned run on one hit with three strikeouts. Manuel Cachutt took the loss. Cachutt (0-1) went two-thirds of an inning and allowed two earned runs on one hit with one strikeout and one walk. Nate Pawelczyk earned his first professional save. Pawelczyk pitched the final two innings and gave up one hit with one strikeout. Chase Solesky started the game and worked three innings. Solesky yielded one earned run on two hits with a season-high five strikeouts. Kaleb Roper struck out four with one walk in two relief innings as well.
Great Falls outhit Billings 8-to-4. Lency Delgado had two hits and Sam Abbott went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. T.J. Hopkins picked up two hits in defeat for the Mustangs. Great Falls continues its six-day, seven-game home stand with the first of four against Idaho Falls Saturday night.
