Orlando Solar Bears News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears have announced that Marc LeFebvre has been named the team's new assistant coach.
LeFebvre, 36, joins the Solar Bears after spending the 2017-18 season with the Cincinnati Cyclones in an identical role. The Cyclones posted a 39-30-3-0 record, highlighted by a power play unit that finished second overall (20.1%) in the ECHL.
"Marc is beginning to come into his own as a coach and recruiter," Solar Bears head coach and general manager Drake Berehowsky said. "He already brings tremendous passion and experience, and we anticipate he will be an excellent addition to our staff."
Prior to his tenure in Cincinnati, LeFebvre served as head coach of the Dundee Stars of the Elite Ice Hockey League over parts of two seasons, where he compiled a 42-45-9-8 record. He led the Stars to the Conference Finals for the first time in team history during the 2016-17 season, while his team ranked third in the league in penalty kill percentage and fifth in power play conversion rate. In 2015-16, the Stars led the EIHL in goals scored, and LeFebvre was a finalist for EIHL Coach of the Year.
"I am excited to be joining the Orlando Solar Bears family and appreciate the opportunity that they have given me," LeFebvre said. "The Solar Bears are one of the premier organizations in our league and I look forward to having a successful season working with Drake."
During the 2014-15 season, LeFebvre served as an assistant coach for Dunaújvárosi Acélbikák of the Hungarian MOL Liga, following a 10-month stint as head coach of the EIHL's Coventry Blaze. LeFebvre began his European coaching career in 2012-13, when he served as an assistant coach for the EIHL's Sheffield Steelers.
LeFebvre also spent two seasons in the Federal Hockey League as head coach of the Dayton Demonz in 2012-13, and the 1000 Islands Privateers in 2011-12. While with Dayton, he led the Demonz to a first-place finish and an appearance in the Commissioner's Cup Finals. For his efforts, LeFebvre was named head coach of the 2012-13 FHL All-Star Game and earned FHL Coach of the Year honors.
As a player, LeFebvre's career spanned eight seasons, and saw stops in the EIHL, United Hockey League, Southern Professional Hockey League, France, and the Netherlands. He spent the majority of his playing career in the EIHL with the Steelers, Blaze, and Edinburgh Capitals, accounting for 15 goals and 32 assists in 138 games.
