Reading, PA - The Reading Royals have signed defenseman Anthony Cortese to an ECHL contract for the 2018-19 season, Head Coach Kirk MacDonald announced Tuesday. A 24-year-old from Pierrefonds, QC, Cortese combined to play 40 games for Indy and Fort Wayne last season (2g, 8 pts.). He is entering his second professional campaign.
"We're excited to bring Anthony in to the Royals family," MacDonald said. "With training camp starting, it's important to have another player in the fold that's played for successful ECHL franchises."
Prior to turning pro, Cortese developed his game for two years at the U Sports level for Concordia University. While with the Stingers, he tallied three goals and 26 points in 55 games. In 2014-15, Cortese finished third on Corpus Christi (NAHL) with 51 points.
From 2012-14, the right-handed shot skated for Gatineau, Prince Edward Island and Charlottetown in the QMJHL. In his final major junior campaign, he knocked eight goals and 51 points.
