Orlando Solar Bears News Release
Orlando, FL - Forward Wade MacLeod notched two goals and forward C.J. Severyn netted the game winner early in the third period as the Solar Bears took down the Greenville Road Warriors 3-1 at the Amway Center on Thursday night.
The opening 20 minutes yielded no goals for either team, but in the second period for the first time all season the Solar Bears surrendered the first goal at home. With Greenville on a 5-on-3 advantage, G Garret Sparks stopped a flurry of shots in front of the net, but as the Solar Bears attempted to clear the puck it bounced off the shoulder of F Brandon Hynes and into the net to put Greenville ahead 1-0. Orlando answered back a little under four minutes later, at 16:11, when MacLeod cut into the right circle and whipped a shot through the five-hole of G Scott Stajcer to tie the game at 1-1 going into the third.
Exactly one minute into the final frame, Severyn snapped the tie when he helped to force a turnover, found the loose puck, and picked the top right corner of the net to give Orlando a 2-1 advantage. Sparks held strong throughout the third and MacLeod added his second of the game on the power play with 2:54 left to play when he slipped a backhander over the goal line to give Orlando the two goal cushion. Sparks turned in a 41 save performance to get his fourth win in five games as Orlando collected the 3-1 victory.
