Ontario Reign News Release

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (11-2-1-3) back-to-back Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, took out the Stockton Thunder (11-4-0-2) with a 3-2 shootout win on Wednesday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena before their third sellout crowd of the season.

The Thunder lit the lamp first at 16:06 when Andrew Clark brought the puck into the Reign zone on a two-on-one play. Clark sent the puck across the front of the crease for Garet Hunt to bang in past Michael Hutchinson's glove side.

Both sides were kept off the board in the next 20 minutes even with two power-play chances for the Thunder.

The Reign made the most of their second power play of the night scoring the equalizer. Matt Register found Kyle Kraemer in the Thunder zone; from the bottom of the left circle, Kraemer fed it through traffic to Jake Newton inside the right circle. Newton wristed the puck to tie the game 1-1 at the 3:25 mark of the third period. Everett Sheen gave the Reign a one-goal lead with a one-timer from the left circle. Brett Beebe and Art Bidlevskii earned the assists. At 9:03, Stockton tied the score as they shoved the puck past Hutchinson with lots of action in front of the Reign cage.

After 60 minutes of regulation play the teams were tied with two tallies each forcing a sudden death overtime. Overtime yielded no score, leading to what would be an eight-round shootout. Both teams scored in the fifth round but it wasn't until Matt Register netted a shot past Ben Foster's blocker and J.P. Burkemper was denied by Hutchinson in the eighth round that the game ended in Ontario's favor.

Hutchinson earned his ninth win of the season with 37 saves on 39 shots; Foster took the loss with 43 saves on 45 shots.
