Amarillo Sod Poodles News Release
Frisco, Texas - Sod Poodles infielder Ivan Castillo set the tone early in Amarillo's 5-3 win against the Frisco RoughRiders on Thursday night, belting a two-run homer in the first inning against Frisco starter Tyler Phillips at Dr. Pepper Ballpark.
Rodrigo Orozco walked on four pitches to begin the game. Castillo then stepped in and smashed his fifth homer of the season to deep right field. It extended Castillo's hit streak to 10 games as the Sod Poodles took an immediate 2-0 lead.
Left-hander Nick Margevicius tossed six innings of one-run ball for the victory. Margevicius struck out five and allowed just four hits.
With the Sod Poodles leading 2-1 in the sixth, they extended their lead with RBI singles from Hudson Potts and Peter Van Gansen to make it a 4-1 ballgame. The runs came against Frisco reliever Blake Bass.
After J.C. Cosme pitched a scoreless seventh and Amarillo added a run in the eighth, the RoughRiders received a two-run single from Preston Beck off Cosme to pull Frisco to within 5-3.
Right-hander Evan Miller entered out of Amarillo's bullpen in the ninth. He retired the side in order to record his third save in three opportunities.
The Sod Poodles and RoughRiders continue their four-game series on Friday night at Dr. Pepper Ballpark. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
Left-hander Adrian Morejon makes the start for Amarillo while Frisco counters with lefty Brock Burke.
