Sodders Powers the Owlz Over the Ghosts

July 29, 2010 - Pioneer League (PL)
Northern Colorado Owlz News Release

Michael Sodders had all four Runs Batted In on Thursday night, pushing the Owlz passed the Casper Ghosts, 4-3 in Casper.

Sodders got the scoring started in the top of the first inning. Andrew Heid led off the game with a single and then advanced to third base on a two-out Nick Farnsworth double. Then Sodders hit a double to deep right-centerfield, scoring both Heid and Farnsworth.

Then in the third inning Sodders came through again with two outs, this time to left-centerfield. That double put the Owlz up 4-0, but the Ghosts weren't done yet. Casper answered on a Rafael Ortega home run in the bottom of the third. Then they scored in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it 4-2.

The game remained that way behind stellar relief pitching on both sides. Bryant George threw 2.2 lights out innings in relief of Donn Roach who started for Orem and went 5 solid innings giving up seven hits and two earned runs. George retired the first eight batters he faced before giving up his only hit on the night. He was then replaced by Caleb Graham who closed out the game and got the save.

The Ghosts did pick up a run in the bottom of the ninth inning on Graham but the threat ended on a strikeout of Yafistel Roja.

The Owlz will finish up their short two-game series and the first half of the season in Casper Friday night at 7:05. Todd Helton, the legendary Rockies first baseman, will be rehabbing in Casper tomorrow night as the DH. As always, the game can be heard on the Orem Owlz radio network by clicking on the 'Listen Live' graphic on the oremowlz.com homepage.
