Slow Start Costs Osprey in 6-3 Setback to Mustangs
July 29, 2010 - Pioneer League (PL)
Missoula PaddleHeads News Release
MISSOULA, MT - The Missoula Osprey fell behind early and could not mount enough offense in a 6-3 loss to the Billings Mustangs on Thursday here at Ogren Park Allegiance Field in front of 2,502 fans.
The Mustangs (21-16) scored a run in the top of the first inning, added a pair of runs in the fourth and scored again in the top of the fifth to take a 4-0 lead. The Osprey would get within 4-2 - on a two-run home run by centerfielder Adam Eaton - and 5-3 in the sixth inning, on a RBI double by Roidany Aguila, but could not get any closer.
Three Billings pitchers held the Osprey to eight hits - three of which were from Eaton, and two more by Raul Navarro. Javan Williams and Richie Rowland also had singles for Missoula (13-24), who lost its fourth straight and for the eighth time in their last nine games.
Of the four Osprey pitchers used on Thursday, only Victor Lara did not give up at least one run. Lara struck out the first two batters he faced before allowing two singles and a walk to load the bases, only to retire the final batter he faced on a fly ball to right.
The Osprey will wrap up the two-game series with the Mustangs - and the first half of the 2010 season - on Friday at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. Right-hander Kevin Eichhorn will make the start for the Osprey, while the Mustangs will send out right-hander Daniel Corcino.
