Snappers to Close Season with Major Leaguers on Roster
August 29, 2014 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, Wisc - For the last three games of the season, the Snappers will be getting Nate Freiman and Drew Pomeranz, who have spent some time at the Major League level for the Oakland A's this season.
Freiman, a first baseman, is batting .241 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 22 games over two stints with the A's. He was recalled from Sacramento August 3 for his second stint and went 6 for 21 (.286) with three home runs and six RBI in eight games. Freiman batted .284 with 15 home runs and 74 RBI in 80 games with Sacramento.
Pomeranz, a left handed pitcher, was recalled from Sacramento yesterday to start at Houston and allowed an unearned run in 5.1 innings in a no decision in Oakland's 5-4 win. He was on the A's Opening Day roster and went 5-4 with a 2.91 ERA in 17 games, including eight starts, before he fractured his right hand June 16. The 25-year-old left-hander was placed on the 15-day disabled list the next day and made one rehab start with Sacramento before he was reinstated from the DL and optioned to Sacramento July 13. Pomeranz is 5-4 with a 2.66 ERA in 18 games overall with Oakland.
Other roster moves include RHP Junior Mendez going on the Disabled List. That puts the roster at 26 players so one more player will have to go on the Disabled List or be reassigned to be at 25 active players, the Midwest league maximum.
The Snappers close out their season with a three game homestand over Labor Day weekend. Saturday's game starts at 7:00 pm and is Fan Appreciation Night! There will be lots of prizes to be given out and a fireworks show after the game, presented by West Bend Mutual in partnership with the Stateline Community Foundation. Sunday's game is at 2:00 pm. The Snappers close out their season on Monday, Labor Day, at 2:00 pm.
