Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI - Garret Coopers's RBI single in the top of the tenth inning tallied the go-ahead run as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers stole one from the Beloit Snappers, 4-3, in Midwest League action at Pohlman Field in front of a paid crowd of 1,359 on Sunday afternoon.
The Snappers losing streak hits six and their record goes to 67-58 (24-31 in the second half). The Timber Rattlers, at 54-66 (25-30 in the second half), have taken the first two games of this four game series.
Just one inning before Cooper's clutch safety, Wisconsin had appeared down for the count, trailing 3-0 in the top of the ninth. They began their surge with one out, as Cooper (2-5, RBI, run), Parker Berberet and Max Walla all singled to load the bases. Two batters later, with Wisconsin down to its final out, Orlando Arcia lined a game tying, three-run triple into right field. In the tenth, Cooper would complete the revival with his game-winning hit off Chris Lamb (2-5). Taylor Wall (2-3) got the win for throwing scoreless ball in the ninth and he also closed out the game with a scoreless tenth.
The late scoring negated a great start from the Snappers' Deyvi Jimenez. He held the Timber Rattlers to three hits in six innings and walked only two. Jimenez didn't allow a single base runner to reach scoring position against him. He also struck out five.
Beloit's offense was able produce a few small rallies to build up a lead. Dayton Alexander started the first one with a third inning single followed by a stolen base and an error, which put him on third. He then trotted across when Brett Vertigan (2-4, RBI) grounded to short. The second run came in two innings later, as three singles loaded the bases and Aaron Shipman hit into a fielder's choice for an RBI and a 2-0 advantage. That lead went to three in the sixth when John Wooten ripped an RBI double down the left field line, but it was a lead that would not hold.
The Snappers and Timber Rattlers will be battling on Monday night in game three of this series. The pitching probables are RHP Derek DeYoung (5-5, 4.22 ERA) for Beloit and RHP Ryan Gibbard (4-4, 4.82 ERA) for Wisconsin. Another Monday means another WJVL/WCLO Ott Schweitzer Monster Deal Monday. Thanks to WJVL and WCLO, two hot dogs, two sodas, two popcorns and two adjustable Snappers road caps can be purchased for just $22 as part of Monday's Monster Deal. Ott Schweitzer Distributing will allow fans to purchase 12 ounce drafts of Miller products for $1.50.
