Lansing Walks-Off in 12 Innings

(Lansing, MI) - Lansing (23-33) came back two separate times to force extra innings and eventually beat the Captains (28-27) by a final of 7-6 in 12 innings. The walk-off single occurred with two outs in the twelfth inning. With two outs, Kevin Patterson walked and Jason Leblebijian was hit-by- a- pitch to put runners at first and second base. Daniel Klein laced a single to left field and Patterson scored as the Lugnuts celebrated the walk-off victory over the Captains.

In the first inning, Lake County got the lead on an RBI single from Jeremy Lucas. The score was 1-0. In the second inning, the Captains added on. With two runners in scoring position, Leonardo Castillo smacked a double off the 23 ft high wall in LF and both runners scored to make the score 3-0. The Captains got another run in the top of the fourth inning when Richard Stock tripled and eventually scored on a wild pitch and the score was 4-0 Captains headed to the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Lansing batted around and scored five times to take the lead. The Lugnuts used five hits, and one walk to score five runs. The big hit in the inning was a triple by Christian Lopes which evened the ballgame at 4-4. Lopes came into score to give Lansing the 5-4 lead after five innings.

With two outs in the top of the sixth inning, LeVon Washington walked and came in to score on an opposite field double from Dorssys Paulino and the score was back to even at 5-5. The tie game was broken up when Jorge Martinez crushed his seventh homerun of the season over the right field wall in the top of the ninth inning, and the Captains led 6-5.

Lansing tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, Jordan Leyland walked to begin the inning and was sacrificed to second base. Chris Hawkins singled to right field and Jason Leblebijian, who pinch ran for Leyland scored and the game was evened at 6. It stayed that way until the 12th.

RHP Jake Sisco (4-10) started the game for Lake County and did not get a decision. Sisco pitched five plus innings and allowed two hits, two earned runs, three walks, and five strikeouts. Cody Penny pitched one third of an inning and allowed four hits, three earned runs, and one strikeout. Jack Wagoner pitched two and two thirds innings and allowed just one hit. Grant Sides pitched one inning and allowed one run, one hit, one walk and one strikeout. Jimmy Stokes (0-1) took the loss after tossing two and two thirds innings and allowing two hits, one earned run, three walks and one two hit batters. Stokes fanned one.

RHP Taylor Cole (7-11) took the ball for Lansing and did not get the decision. Cole pitched five innings and allowed four earned runs on five hits with two walks and he had eight strikeouts. Lansing used three relief pitchers to combine for seven innings of relief. They allowed two hits, two earned runs and five walks between the three pitchers. The pen struck out six. The win went to Arik Sikula (5-0).

The Captains will remain in Lansing, Michigan on Monday to take on the Lansing Lugnuts in game three of a four game series. The Captains will send RHP Luis Dejesus (5-11, 6.44) to the mound to start the ballgame and the Lugnuts will counter with RHP Ben White (0-1, 3.98). First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM from Cooley Law School Stadium.
