Burlington Bees News Release
The Bees' offensive woes were accompanied by equally frustrating pitching woes in a 13-1 loss to the Beloit Snappers on Thursday night.
The loss was the Bees' fifth in a row, a span during which the lineup has mustered only five runs. The lone tally on Thursday night came in the bottom of the sixth inning with Bees already sitting in a 12-0 hole. With one out, Carlo Testa launched a long fly ball to center field that Aaron Hicks, the Minnesota Twins' top prospect, tracked down on a dead run on the warning track with his back to the infield for as sensational a catch as one could hope to see. Whit Merrifield came home on the play after a leadoff double to put the Bees on the board.
The Snappers took the advantage for good in the first inning with a frame that saw them score half a dozen. The effort chased Bees starter Tyler Sample (L, 5-7) from the game after only a third of an inning, his shortest appearance of the season. The big righty allowed six runs on four hits and three walks, and was relieved by Rodolfo Encarnacion, who did not fare much better. He allowed four runs on three hits with four walks in two and a third innings.
Jake Kuebler reached base three times to lead the offense, and Testa had two hits, including a double, and an RBI.
