Snappers Fall 6-1 to Cubs, Streak Comes to an End

South Bend, IN - The Beloit Snappers (45-44) saw their season high winning streak come to an end Friday night in a 6-1 loss to the South Bend Cubs (46-45) at Four Winds Field.
It was their first loss since July 2nd, as the Snappers failed to continue their season high eight game winning streak. They failed to register at least 10 hits for the first time in the last eight games as well.
Starter Ivan Andueza struggled early, pitching just three innings and surrendering eight hits, six earned runs and two walks with just two strikeouts. Snappers relievers Seth Martinez and Nick Highberger came on to pitch five scoreless innings in relief, but the Snappers couldn't come back to make it close.
The lone run for Beloit came on an RBI single by Austin Beck way back in the first inning that scored Lazaro Armenteros. Armenteros tripled one batter before and the Snappers got off to 1-0 lead thanks to Beck, their only lead of the game.
Their lead dissipated in the third, when the Cubs plated three runs to go up 3-1.
In the bottom of the third, Rafael Narea doubled to center field to score Christian Donahue and Zach Davis. Austin Filiere then brought home Narea on a sac fly to make it 3-1.
The Cubs put up another three spot one inning later in the fourth, when Chris Singleton tripled to left field to plate Cam Balego and Donahue. Zach Davis singled to score Singleton to make it 6-1 and the scoring would end there.
The offense for the Snappers struggled throughout the night, going 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position, that one hit coming from Beck in the first inning, and left eight men on base.
Beloit's best chance to get back in the game trailing 6-1 came in the top of the fifth. Mickey McDonald, who led the way going 3-for-4, and Nick Allen hit back-to-back one out singles. McDonald got to third on a ground out, but Beck grounded into a force at second and the threat was retired.
The Snappers took game one of the series 10-3 and game two 8-1. The Snappers have yet to earn a three-game sweep this season.
The Snappers will now head to Grand Rapids, Michigan to take on another Eastern division foe in the West Michigan Whitecaps. It's the first matchup of the season between these two teams.
Game one of the series is Saturday at 6:05 p.m. central time. Starting for the Snappers will be right-hander Mitchell Jordan (3-2, 2.42). Opposing him for the Whitecaps will be right-hander Tom de Blok (0-2, 4.32).
