
Snappers Fail to Deliver Offensively, Fall 2-1

Beloit, WI- The Beloit Snappers failed to deliver offensively Sunday afternoon against the Quad Cities River Bandits falling 2-1 at Pohlman Field.
The Snappers and River Bandits went scoreless until the top of the fourth when the River Bandits collected two runs. Nick Martini and Colin Walsh hit back-to-back singles, then Anthony Melchionda doubled to score Martini. Juan Castillo then hit a sac fly scoring Walsh, giving the Bandits a 2-0 lead.
Jairo Rodriguez scored the first run for the Snappers in the bottom of the fifth on a sac fly by Wang-Wei Lin bringing the score to 2-1. Rodriguez doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch by Brad Watson.
Josh Renfro relieved Watson in the bottom of the seventh. Watson worked six innings, allowing two hits and one run.
Beloit's Matt Tomshaw went seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs, while recording six strikeouts. Steven Gruver relieved Tomshaw in the top of the eighth and issued the first walk of the game by Snappers pitchers to leadoff batter, Matt Williams.
Health Wyatt relieved Josh Renfro in the bottom of the ninth with one out. Renfro pitched two and a third scoreless innings for the River Bandits. Kennys Vargas tried to keep the Snappers alive with a two-out single, but the game ended when Drew Leachman grounded into a fielder's choice.
Tomshaw took the 2-1 loss for the Snappers, he is now 4-6 for the season.
The Snappers were outhit by the River Bandits 8-3.
The Snappers and River Bandits finish off the regular season tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 PM. David Hurlbut will take the mound for the Snappers, he is 5-6 with a 2.80 ERA in 106.0 innings pitched. Also, cheer on your Snappers in the 2012 Midwest League Playoffs, starting Wednesday in Clinton, Iowa. The Snappers will battle with the LumberKings in a best of three matchup with game two in Beloit on Thursday at 6:30, and game three (if necessary) on Friday at 6:30 PM.
