LANSING, Mich. - Chris Schaeffer drilled a three-run double and a two-run homer in the Lansing Lugnuts' (35-32, 82-54) 9-2 victory over the Lake County Captains (39-30, 70-67) on Sunday afternoon at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Schaeffer smacked a three-run double in the Lugnuts' four-run second inning off Captains starter Elvis Araujo (Loss, 7-10). In the bottom of the eighth, the Lugs catcher added a two-run homer.

Araujo allowed five runs in five innings on four hits and one walk while striking out five.

Lugnuts starter Anthony DeSclafani (Win, 11-3) earned his team-high eleventh win of the year despite allowing at least one base runner to reach in all five innings of work. The righty gave up two runs on five hits, walked one and struck out three.

It was the bottom of the Lugnuts order that did the damage on Sunday afternoon. The seven hitter Chris Peters went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. The six hitter Gustavo Pierre scored twice and delivered an RBI triple. The eight hitter Shane Opitz scored a once and drove in a run.

The Lugnuts' bullpen combined to throw four scoreless innings. Brandon Berl threw 1 1/3 innings striking out two. Ian Kadish worked 1 2/3 innings before Ajay Meyer tossed a scoreless ninth inning.

The 2012 regular season finale is on Fan Appreciation Day, Monday, September 3rd at 2:05 p.m. The Lugnuts will put Kramer Champlin (4-1, 4.28) on the mound against Lake County right-hander Cody Anderson (4-7, 3.20). The game will feature great giveaways and a postgame team autograph session.
