
LumberKings top Kernels 7-5 in 11 innings

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Clinton LumberKings topped the Kernels 7-5 in 11 innings on Sunday afternoon. The Kernels led the ballgame 5-0, but the LumberKings plated the final 7 runs for the 9th straight victory.
Clinton pushed across 2 runs in the 11th inning to break the game, taking a 7-5 lead. With 2 outs, 2 runs scored on a throwing error by Kernels shortstop Eric Stamets. On a bouncer to short the throw from Stamets was wide and allowed Jamal Austin to reach safely, despite a long stretch by 1st baseman Matt Scioscia. David Villasuso and Patrick Brady both scored on the play.
Stephen Tromblee (4-4) took the tough-luck loss, despite going 3.1 innings in relief. He allowed the 1 unearned run on only 3 hits while striking out 4. Stephen Shackleford (6-2) picked up the win in 2 innings of relief while Josh Corrales recorded his 2nd save.
Andy Workman gave the Kernels the early 2-0 lead with a 2-RBI double in the 1st inning. Workman drove in another run with a fielder's choice in the 3rd inning. Abel Baker then followed with a RBI single to put the Kernels up 4-0. Zach Borenstein triple that led off the 5th inning led to a run. Borenstein scored later in the inning on a double play off the bat of Abel Baker, putting the Kernels up 5-0.
Clinton hit 2 home runs in the 6th inning, cutting the Kernels lead to 5-2. Dillon Hazlett's 6th homer, and Ramon Morla's 12th long ball both went to left field. The LumberKings tied the game 5-5 in the 8th inning. Ramon Morla's 2-RBI triple brought Jamal Austin and Dan Paolini home. Morla scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by Kevin Rivers.
Ryan Crowley started for Cedar Rapids and went 6 innings. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 5 and walking 1. Brandon Lodge pitched a scoreless and hitless inning. Junior Carlin allowed 3 runs over 0.2 inning. Carlin walked 3 and allowed 2 hits in the 8th inning. Seon-Gi Kim went 6 innings for the LumberKings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits while striking out 3 and waling 1. Kyle Hunter added 2 scoreless innings in relief.
