Snappers crush Cougars

Anthony Recker gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the second inning with a solo home run to left field. The Snappers quickly tied the game in the bottom of the second. Erik Lis and Whit Robbins each reached base in the second inning after being plunked by Cougars starting pitcher Joe Piekarz. Eli Tintor then singled in Lis, tying the game 1-1. With one out in the bottom of the third Caleb Moore tripled. Edward Ovalle then reached on an error by Kane County shortstop Frank Martinez, his first of three errors of the night, scoring Moore to give Beloit a 2-1 lead. Juan Portes reached on Martinez's second error allowing Ovalle to score, putting the Snappers ahead 3-1. The Cougars cut the lead to 3-2 with a run in the fifth. The Snappers sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning, plating four runs to take a 7-3 lead. The Beloit offense flexed its muscle in the sixth with four more runs, putting the game out of reach for the Cougars. Kane County added a home run in the top of the eighth to make it an 11-3 game. Reliever David Shinskie improved to 5-5 on the season. Shinskie pitched two and a two-thirds scoreless innings and recorded four strikeouts to get the win. Lis lead the offensive surge for the Snappers, going two for four with a triple and three RBI.

Upcoming Schedule: Beloit travels to Kane County for a two game series June 29-30. The Snappers and Cougars return to Beloit for a two game series Friday, July 1 and Saturday, July 2.
