
Snakes Suffer Eighth Straight Defeat

Collecting only four hits the Calgary Vipers dropped an 8-2 contest to the Edmonton Capitals at Telus Field in Edmonton, Alberta. The Vipers gave up three runs in both the third and fifth innings while surrendering 12 hits along the way. With the loss the Snakes have dropped eight straight games after only losing eight games in their first 28 contests of the season. Calgary has now slid to third place in the Golden Baseball League's North Division with their 20-16 record and are seven games behind the Chico Outlaws with eight games remaining in the first half.
Marcus McKenzie (0-2) took the loss in the game in giving up six runs in four and a third innings.
Calgary got onto the scoreboard first in the top of the second inning as Kevin Price singled, Drew Miller was hit by a pitch, Jorge Mejia walked to load the bases, and Caonabo Cosme singled a run in for a 1-0 lead.
Edmonton quickly tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the frame when Tom Collaro singled, Cliff Brumbaugh doubled, and Alex Prieto hit a sacrifice fly.
The Capitals took the lead in the third as Mike Hrynio singled, Larry Bigbie doubled in one, Collaro walked, and Brumbaugh doubled in two more for a 4-1 advantage.
In the bottom of the fifth inning Edmonton added on when Enrique Cruz and Bigbie singled followed by a Collaro three run shot for a 7-1 lead.
Another run was added by the Capitals in the sixth frame as Ryan Stevenson walked and both Cruz and Bigbie singled for a 8-1 advantage.
The Vipers got a tally back in the next half inning for a 8-2 score when Price doubled, moved to third base on a Miller groundout, and scored when Mejia reached on a fielding error for a run batted in.
The Vipers now return home to Calgary and Foothills Stadium on Saturday July 3rd at 5:05 PM MDT and Sunday July 4th at 1:35 PM MDT to take on the Edmonton Capitals. On the 4th the Vipers will be hosting America Day at the ballpark where a trip for two to Tucson for the Golden Baseball League All-Star game will be given away.
