Smush Parker Signs with NBA's Pistons

BOISE, ID- October 1, 2004- The 2004 NBA Champion Detroit Pistons announced today that they have signed former Idaho Stampede guard William "Smush" Parker. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Parker becomes the most recent former Idaho Stampede player to sign with an NBA team this year. Josh Davis, the 2003-04 CBA Most Valuable Player, signed with the Philadelphia 76ers on September 20th.

Parker, a 6'4, 180 lb. guard played nine games for the Stampede last season averaging 21.0 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 4.8 apg and 2.1 spg. Parker finished his 2003-04 season playing with Aris Thessaloniki in Greece, where he helped lead the team to the 2004 Greek Cup and was named a 2004 Greek A1 All-Star.

Parker, originally a 2002 CBA second round draft pick by the Idaho Stampede, has played for the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers. In 66 games during the 2002-03 season for the Cavaliers, Parker averaged 6.2 ppg, 1.8 rpg and 2.5 apg.

Parker played collegiately for the College of Southern Idaho and Fordham University. While at Fordham, Parker averaged 16.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 4.3 apg, and was named 2002 All-Atlantic 10 Second Team.

The Stampede begins their seventh season on the road November 19 and 20, against the Yakima Sun Kings and returns on Friday, November 26, for a three-game homestand to tip-off against the Great Lakes Storm at 7:10 p.m. for their home season opener.
