Knoxville Smokies News Release
Chattanooga, Tenn. - The Chattanooga bullpen hit two batters and walked four more in allowing four runs in the 9th inning of a 7-4 Smokies win Friday night at BellSouth Park.
Tied at three in the ninth, Bucky Jacobsen was hit by a pitch by Dave Gil and replaced by pinch runner Chris Weekly. Two outs later, Yadier Molina was plunked and replaced with Dan Moylan. Gil walked John Nelson to load the bases and turned the game over to Phil Devey, who fared no better. Devey walked the only two batters he faced, Kevan Burns and Skip Schumaker to drive in the go ahead run and winning run. Dave Therneau replaced Devey and walked in another run, then allowed a RBI single to Scott Krause, the Smokies only hit of the inning. Schumaker was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.
Smokies starter Rhett Parrott, pitching in front of friends and family from nearby Dalton, Ga., struck out nine and allowed two runs over 7 1/3 innings.
Tennessee and Chattanooga continue their series Saturday night with Jeremy Cummings (4-4, 4.40) starting for the Smokies against Josh Hall (2-4, 3.04).
Roster move: B.R. Cook rejoined the Smokies roster from Triple A Memphis prior to the game and faced one batter in the eighth. Cook was promoted to Memphis on May 8. To make room, reliever Jeremy Lambert was placed on the disabled list (groin).
