Greenville Walks to Victory Over Rays

Orlando Rays News Release
ORLANDO -Greenville took advantage of relief pitcher John Rocker's control problems, scoring six runs in the seventh inning as the Braves dropped the Orlando Rays 7-4 at Cracker Jack Stadium Friday.
Relief pitcher John Rocker was tagged for 6 runs-all earned-on 3 hits and 5 walks in 1.0 innings pitched. Rocker's night started strong, as the left-hander needed only one pitch to escape a bases-loaded jam in the sixth inning, getting Greenville to ground into a double play.
The Rays attempted to stage a desperate 9th inning rally, pushing four runs across in the ninth but it was too little, too late for Orlando, who fell to 19-27 on the year. Frank Moore led the Rays offense with a 3-4 effort, while Matt Diaz and Jorge Cantu each had doubles for Orlando. Outfielder Jonny Gomes made a pair of spectacular defensive plays in left field, one of which was a diving effort that robbed Greenville's Lee Evans of an extra-base hit.
Orlando and the Braves will continue their four-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m., with LHP Jon Switzer (3-3, 5.06) starting for the Rays, while the Braves counter with RHP Roman Colon (3-2, 4.37).
Rays Notes
- Tomorrow's game will start at 7:05 p.m. and will feature the Rays' famous Saturday post-game fireworks show.
